Day 4 Opole - Krakau 286 km
Driving along the Polish countryside was the pleasant start of the
day, the route book was accurate down to the millimetre (Well done
Hugo !)
Auschwitz was our destination....
Very impressing, it was not until a few hours later we spoke again
in
the car.
I think that’s about the only thing you can do after seeing this Nazi
place... silence in remembrance of those who were not as fortunate
as
us and couldn’t drive away......never went anywhere from there..
We skipped the visit to the house of Pope John, he wouldn’t have
been home anyway.....
The Hotel was great, we had a suite as VIPs and it had a minibar
and...I don’t seem to recall anything after that second gin and
tonic..... Next day a bus tour to Krakau, some of us didn’t make it
to
the evening without a beauty sleep....
Day 6 Krakau-L´Viv 399 km
Salt in the soup Hugo calls it, because we visit one of the most famous
salt mines in Koplania-Soli, very nice but the guides were too slow
and
we had to pay for this....
Crossing the border to the Ukraine is something I’ll will not easily
forget.
It all went wrong when I was taking pictures (see below) and this
military chap almost confiscates my camera. (fat chance as you can
see)
Six hour marathon of paperwork followed, the most amazing thing is
they
didn’t even check the cars....Of course we had to pay, and eventually
we found ourselves on Ukrainian roads it the middle of the night, this
is what we wanted to avoid....
The last team arrived at the Sputnik Hotel in L´viv at 04:30
in the
morning, just in time to be the first for breakfast....
Bye the way they did have a choice, dinner or breakfast....
We left at 6 o’clock for the next stage to Kiev.....
